A city of contrasts and diversity, Sarcelles thrives thanks to the strong momentum driven by its many artistic and cultural associations. The Cèdre Bleu site, with its 19th-century former chapel, adjoining buildings, and classified garden, provides the ideal setting to host the socio-cultural center and become a unifying place for community engagement and sharing. The restructuring of this heritage ensemble brings this ambition to life.
By bringing together the activities of the Houses of Culture, Arts, and Associations in a single location, the socio-cultural center offers a diverse and inclusive welcome to all. The House of Culture is housed in the former chapel, an unusual and majestic setting for the center’s collective functions and shared activities. The side aisles accommodate exhibition and reading rooms as well as the café, while the media library occupies the balconies and gallery. The former central nave has been transformed into a spacious auditorium. Standing 15 meters high, this space is equipped with a rear-stage platform and telescopic seating to host a wide variety of performances. Acoustic curtains allow for visual and sound separation between the reception area and the auditorium, enabling independent use. Replacing the old broken or obscured stained-glass windows, new openings have been restored, bringing clarity back to the space.
Adjacent to the chapel are the House of Arts and the House of Associations, with spaces specially designed to suit their respective activities. A key objective within the socio-cultural center has been to create circulation paths that link the three structures and encourage interactions among users.
At the neighborhood level, the facility has regained its former grandeur. With its renovated façade, public park planted with remarkable trees, a grand staircase, and tiered seating that can serve as an open-air theater, the socio-cultural center radiates beyond its walls and invites residents to reclaim this vibrant community space.
