Openworkstudio was engaged to design the last space patrons would encounter during their tour around the Simonds Farsons Cisk Brewhouse. Visitors are to experience Cisk lager in the beer’s new spiritual home within its actual historical home, a place where the flavour and the spirit of the brew can be enjoyed to the full.
The design (developed in collaboration with Forward Architects) celebrates Cisk’s values, it's positioning as Malta’s pre-eminent beer, its rich and distinguished legacy and its distinctive flavour, taste and colour.
The ‘Cisk Tap’ reinforces the ever-popular brew’s links to its origins. It is located at the top of the iconic 1950s Simonds Farsons Cisk brewery. A singular solid central mass rises out of the floor, surrounded by a crystalline glazed enclosure which opens to the expansive outdoor terraces and extensive views across the islands.
Our proposal proposed the creation of an additional facility on the level below, a multi-purpose event hall, to extend the scope and reach of the Cisk Tap. This new space, within the original building fabric, offers a venue for culture, entertainment and more.
With a separate identity, yet strongly connected in the programme to the bar above, the adaptable stage negotiates the climb up the building to the Cisk Tap. Alone, it accommodates numerous and diverse activities; together with
the Cisk Tap, it transforms into an incomparable singular venue.
