During the 60’s, a number of beaches in the city of Athens were developed by the local Tourism Authority. The infrastructure constructed to provide the necessary facilities for visitors was designed in a low key modernist manner with respect to the natural environment. At the time they were considered quite fashionable as they were icons of the new lifestyle of post war Greece. Since then, they were left in decay. Recently they were privatized and consequently refurbished by the new owners.
The proposal for a resort entrance is part of one of those refurbishment schemes but it was never constructed. It was designed to be a landmark, a ‘sign’ for the resort, and yet retain an affiliation with the modernist building complex of the resort.
