Hotel SIDE Hamburg
Space and light in relation to one another – this is the concept which essentially shapes the heart of the new 5-star-hotel SIDE with its 30 m high glass atrium - an inspiration from Jan Störmer, orchestrated with the theatrical light concept developed by Bob Wilson. Thanks to alternating computer controlled light impulses it is possible to vary the intensity of colour as the day proceeds. The architectural concept is two interlinked buildings: a massive stone backbone towers 4 floors over an 8 storey glass facade construction. The double glass facade is a climate and acoustic buffer. 178 rooms in 5 different categories and 10 "flying" suites in the tower floor. The 8th-floor sky lounge with its outdoor terrace is high above the roofs of Hamburg and gives inside a striking vertigo – inducing bird's eye view of the entrance foyer.
Colour contrasts feature throughout. The "fusion"-bar on the ground-floor is all red, the restaurant restores equilibrium with shades of white. The ballroom with a capacity for 200 people for events or conferences is one floor beneath yet still with daylight from outside. The pool, beauty and fitness areas lively in a host of colour come deep below this floor and for those who arrive by car the SIDE offers for 100 cars a complete automatic parking system.
