Located in the middle of the buzzing street, the corner
store had to make a huge presence in Hauz Khaz Village for which we created a
Facade with an intricate and Indian motif in a contemporary ash colour against
the backdrop of golden metallic sheets using pieces of customized cement Jaali
which not only stands out during the daytime but at night as well, as all the
jaalis are backlight creating an interesting aura before you even enter the
store. A frosted glass railing also adds to the contemporary look.
The idea of the design came from two main requirements of
the client: “BOLD & OPULANT”.
The internal space of the store was divided into two parts
by a small corridor; we chose to paint all the walls black providing us a blank
canvas. We brought the outer façade inside with all the jaali, golden colour
& the lights, which takes us all the way to the backend of the store thus
combining the two parts of it. In this wall made of the solid motives, linear
vertical mirrors were placed at intervals to aid functionality & design. We
created cylindrical canopies which hang directly above the garment displays,
thus creating a totally clean and untouched floor. Most of the lighting for the
space came from these fixtures, a result of which was concentration of light
mainly on the garments below and just enough light to enhance the cylindrical
canopy itself. Moreover expansive use of mirrors created a sense of spatial
space. Comprised of 1, 22,000 replicas of Antique Indian Gold Coins, the entire
store was filled with opulence as the coins graced not only on the cylindrical
canopies with a mystical spread around them but the entire floor of the store
was covered with them. This creates an elated sense of being in a treasure
room, with just the garments being accented with the light. Furniture had to
very modern to keep a proper mix of classic and contemporary; therefore we went
for a chairs made out of acrylic and sofa and ottomans as very square and edgy.

logo of the brand of the store, on the door and the front glass.
