The owner works in a design-related industry, therefore for the project, he hopes to freely express his imagination of ideal life: “Work and life should not be in opposition, instead should be balanced harmoniously.”
We tear down the walls of an originally two-bedrooms small space and redesign it into working area, dining and living room, and bedroom. The designer breaks the frame and connects every space with an elevated platform. Rooms are divided but not separated as they share the light, extending depth and vision.
As the owner has a habit of cycling, behind the shoe bench wall the designer arranged space to hang the bicycle. And the bench with an outdoor style echoes the natural scenery that can be seen anywhere along the way of cycling.
The cement-texture-painted floor extends from the entrance to the working area.
The designer leaves the partition wall top of the working area empty, allowing light and air to flow in, making the space volume look lighter and increasing the visual hierarchy. The bookshelves’ vertical boards, color of which is inspired by the black keys of the owner’s piano, are neatly interspersed between shelf boards.
Moving from the working area to the living area, the floor material switches from cement texture paint to warm wood. With the change of space, the cement once used on the floor is now applied to the ceiling and walls, creating a steady and peaceful atmosphere.
Powder white subway bricks are not only used in the kitchen and wine display area but also placed on the full back wall of the sofa to provide a romantic feeling of being in a foreign subway station.
The entrance of the bedroom behind the TV wall is integrated into the wall with a hidden door. Bedroom as the main resting area, the designer simply uses white as the base and matches with the bedside main wall of cement texture paint, creating a pure and restful environment.
Breaking the usual pattern, creativity and inspiration seem to be liberated.
Work and life meet here, nourish each other, finding out the most suitable lifestyle.
