The Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, is predicted to be the largest photovoltaic solar power facility in the UAE region. At the heart of this Solar Park will be the Solar Innovation Centre, a new interactive exhibition facility set to draw researchers, tourist, students and business professionals from across the UAE.
An education and convention destination, the Solar Innovation Centre will promote the sustainable future development of the Emirate of Dubai and showcase the Solar Park as an important hub of Dubai’s Integrated Energy Strategy.
Within it’s stimulating free-flowing space the Innovation Centre will present a technological, cultural and social opportunity. A house of thought, that will inspire curiosity & creative thinking, educate & stimulate interest in renewable energy and also form an important meeting point that will engage the local community, professionals, students and tourists.
Embodying some of these key principles the design was also inspired by the ‘divine geometry’ often found in Islamic art. Creating a synergy between design and function the simple structure produces a beautiful organic form that simultaneously maximises shading and insulation. Further integrated environmental systems will also help to minimise the overall carbon footprint and obtain LEED Certification.
The project will be a leading example of sustainability and self-sufficiency within the region. The Solar Innovation Centre will be principally self-sufficient, it will utilise sustainable building materials and achieve efficiency through energy and water saving solutions. These achievements will be qualified by green certifications, the project is targeting LEED Platinum certification.
