Tapped by Shaza to design their new Doha location, this proposal seeks to follow Shaza’s principles by drawing from a repertoire of forms from Islamic art and architecture, Arabic geometry, and contemporary architectural elements.
Located in central Doha, the site faces a new landscaped traffic circle along the avenue fronting the famed Islamic arts museum.
The building sits on the site as a chiseled monolith, sculpted to take advantage of the views, as well as to take maximum advantage of the unique site conditions.
Typologically unique, the amenities and hotel rooms are spread across all floors rather than grouped vertically in the building. The exterior is silk screened glass with a traditional Arabic pattern, which is parametrically modified in order to create different densities where desired.
