Shunde Jun'an, which is famous for its food, is located in the south of China. Every year, more than 80 village banquets are held here to mark important festivals and events. This creates the need for a village banquet kitchen. Near the venue is the river for the dragon boat race. Therefore, there is a village banquet dragon boat exhibition hall, which integrates the village banquet kitchen, dragon boat cultural exhibition, dragon boat team training and competition watching, etc., thus forming a multi-functional public space.
The design makes the entire bottom floor of the building elevated, and the semi-sunk kitchen space allows the public to see the process of making village banquet delicacies; the smoke from the fire pit rises from this, climbing from the first floor to the third floor along the curved inner wall of plain concrete. The design not only effectively utilizes the physical effect of thermal ventilation, but also uses the smoke rising from inside the building as a signal for villagers to gather, and even as a ritual totem.
