This penthouse, is located in a discreet building in central Shanghai. It overlooks great part of the city and its Iconic skyline.
An 220sqm old Gym on top of a 35 storey building was re converted into these almost 400 sqm green penthouse, It is designed by Ismael Abedin Ingelmo in close cooperation with the customer. To adapt the space to current living conditions it was necessary to do several changes such as glass facade, build second level and access it from a spiral staircase, vertical divisions, solarium, green rooftop, etc.
The particularity of this project is that it was designed and built without any previous plan. No CAD drawings or Renderings were made, instead that, every communication was done by sketches on site, meetings occur in the space and decisions were drawn in pieces of paper, wood, floor, walls, etc.
That process helped customer to understand design decision making process and rationalization of material, and be able to improve the project at any stage of it.
Quality, efficiency, comfort and a pollutant free environment were the premises given to the designer. To achieve this, All walls use VOC free wall coverings, flooring and stairs are made by natural wood, as well as the majority of the furniture is made in durable solid wood, wood cork floor is used on the second floor.
Following customer willingness, alot of greenery, including more than 50 species of plants, are showcased inside the penthouse and on the two extensive green roof gardens that, by the way, are amazing to see the great concrete jungle of Shanghai from a natural environment . The two solarium spaces help to sustainable heat the place in winter, in summer the ventilation is mostly done by natural ventilation trough window openings, achieving a great grade of sustainability.
A Himalayan salt brick near the master bedroom helps improve the inner environment health standards while it is very visually attractive.
The space is open and flexible, and eminently suitable for both, family and entertaining.
