The theme of this Cinema Palace project is ‘vision’. When we were coming up with the design concept for this project, we realised that the creation of movies derived from something even more important than ordinary lives. Movie makers are trying their best to construct a virtual world that is different from the reality, so as to inspire the audience to follow their dreams, even if they might sound impossible to achieve. We channeled this ‘inspiration’ to the interior space, and showed the real world that the audience sees in a more dreamy way, giving the audience a unique viewing experience.
We chose to use glass bricks and customized V-shaped glass to fully extend the space. At the same time, the permeability of the glass and the special reflection formed by the glass create a stronger visual impact. The blurred light and elongated shadows work together to give the audience a mirage-like optical experience.
At the junction of the cinema space and the public space, we extended the design theme in this area as well, designed it as the background wall of the cinema, and matched it with custom-made glass lamps - the light reflecting the glass, showing a crystal-like sparkling effect. The custom-made lamps are spread out along with the arc-shaped wall, and the various heights further highlight the characteristics of the ‘Cinema Palace’ brand.
Entering the hall of the cinema, we designed the same custom lamps into the style of hanging chandeliers. Groups of chandeliers were installed from the ceiling, making the lobby space no longer monotonous. They also highlight the originally tall ceiling of the space. The wall matched with the V-shaped glass, which creates a different visual experience.
We continued this design theme in the bathroom. We custom-made a characteristic linear lighting which decorated the whole space. They allowed the entire space to be displayed in front of you as in unity. At the same time, this continuity of light lengthens people's subjective vision, making the originally small space extend into ‘infinity’, forging an unreal illusion.
The audience can see the ‘vision’ design concept throughout the whole cinema space. By using the contrast of various colours, materials and lighting, we created an interesting and rich space, so that the audience feels like they are in a world of ‘illusion’. We would like the audience to have the same unique feeling after watching a magnificent movie.
