The renewal of a city is not only to demolish the old and build a new one, but also to reuse the existing buildings. The Pudong Gas plant was put into operating 30 years ago and has been witnessing the great changes of Pudong .
Shanghai Gas Training and Innovation Center is born in this old factory area. It has the historical gene of Pudong Gas plant, but also has the future and international vision. The industrial style is the character of this interior and exterior space. And the concept of environmental protection, technology and innovation is also the soul of the design. The bright colors integrate with the industrial style materials, producing a strong visual impact.
The main interior space of the project is the No. 1 Training building, which used to be a large factory building, with a huge crane. In the new plan, the lobby is the center of the whole Training building, which retains the original height of the space. But the training rooms reduce the height of the space to save energy effectively. The bright green reception box is the visual center of the lobby, which is inspired by the material of container. The rust-textured metal walls and wooden gratings make a strong visual impact. The green plant wall is decorated with waste gas pipes from the former gas factory. The steps enrich the function of the lobby. It is not only the rest area after the class, but also the auditorium for activities. Even it could be used to take graduation photos. The huge crane is retained, which is the memory of the past.
