SEV residence
A young Muslim family with orthodox nature, seek us for a home in the serene urban setting with a site area of 421 sqmt. The site was surrounded by chaotic residential building, the couple have two small children and the husband continues the third generation business. The first criteria was the space should be more secured and safer in an urban context.
The modest nature of the family made us to work on more of introvert planning strategy with connection on the surface planes. The site was divided by four zones namely public, semi public, semi private and private. User had a serious note over the access on how everyone could travel the parts of the house with respect to the users. Paths generated as three major one. Servants, men's, women's, this configured the whole program with the user pattern. The linear wall over the user pattern evolved the spaces. In addition to this the green and the servant's places where marked to get the design outline.
The iteration of design formulation was providing the semi private foyer and a part of living creating two unequal space for men and women, subscribed over a 12 feet long temporary sliding partition. The space can be transformed to a single utilitarian space, this spreads to a open court snitching the compound wall with just a visual inhabitancy to the space.
The dining borrowed one surface of the court to push in the substantial light and ventilation through stack effect, which was accessible through sliding door. The court is engulfed with partial openings on most of the sides. The feature wall carries a yellow slate cladding. The dining on the other hand extends to the front kitchen and back kitchen to the utility. The path from the living cliffs at the bedroom and to the vertical transition of space. Bedroom gets a private court on the north west edge of the site.
The staircase volume has been treated with stack effect and slit louvered openings on both sides to provide circulation over the whole volume of space. Staircase left with exposed concrete at the bottom, layered with landscape and feature wall. The seamless light pattern carving the landscape forms a interesting phenomenon thought the clichéd skylight. The dichotomy of breaking the visuals was a mean task and it augmented to deliver a court that extends from every bedroom to form the timeless in the space.
The client intended to have only bed spaces on the first floor with no cognition for the interactive spaces, we dealt by opening the terrace garden on the southern side of the building. The clean and neat facade worked with bold material, which acts as a catalyst to the holistic approach overlaying the planning. The rudimentary long wall, was robust in nature that stood out of the horizontal subtleness of the space.
The material casting like white walls, exposed concrete, teak wood planks, Italian marble , kota stones, leather finish granite for courtyards, flamed finish granite for parking and rough matte vitrified tile for kitchen, leads to the texture of the design creating the touch and feel in the built space.
