DESIGN CONCEPT
Due to the lack of urban public open space and green space around the site, we designed the entire library as a community garden. The proposal hopes to redefine libraries in the city through the "Garden Link", making the building an open and green gathering place for the community.Taking into account the 6-meter height difference of the site, multiple gardens are set up in the building. People can choose different ways to cross the gardens to reach the library.Let reading, exhibitions, and music performances be together with nature and gardens, achieving no boundaries between indoors and outdoors
PLAN ORGANIZATION
Gardens located at different elevations in buildings form a vertical garden system.some are connected to the entrance square and become outdoor activity spaces for the children's library on the first floor. Some gardens sink into underground garages bringing greenery and lighting to the garages achieving natural ventilation and reducing the impact on the climate.some are located on rooftop terraces, becoming an urban reading deck.
SPECIALIZED SPACE
The Seoul Garden reading space located on the roof pays homage to the wooden structure of "Korean traditional academies" by using wooden structures reflecting the interaction between nature and body and mind in "traditional academies".
