The Seoul Mayor's Office embodies the concept of '열린문' (open door), a design philosophy that emphasizes openness, transparency, and honesty. Drawing inspiration from nature, the space is meticulously crafted with organic elements—wood-based materials, natural colors, and furniture custom-designed by the interior designer to reflect the natural environment. The reception features a front desk where a 10-meter-long hand-dyed fabric wraps around. The color of the dye, blue, represents hope and harmonizes with the space’s other natural elements, creating a cohesive and meaningful office environment that goes beyond traditional office design. Between the reception room and the hallway leading to the office and meeting rooms, there are door panels that open and close freely, symbolizing accessibility. The open-plan layout fosters collaboration and communication, encouraging interaction between employees and visitors alike. Elements like soft, rounded shapes and tactile textures add a layer of warmth to the overall design, making the space feel inviting and human centric. In the meeting room, the round table is intentionally designed to eliminate any sense of hierarchy, encouraging equality and open dialogue among all participants. By removing the traditional head of the table, the design fosters a more collaborative atmosphere, where everyone's voice is valued equally. This thoughtfully designed space not only creates a visually appealing environment but also reflects the Mayor’s commitment to fostering a culture of inclusivity and transparency.
