Located in Venice, Florida this house was recently certified at the LEED for Homes platinum level. Native scrub oak and cabbage palms that existed on the half acre site were retained while invasive species were replaced with other native, drought resistant plant materials. The highly sculptural form of the house is clad in concrete and stucco and is punctuated by commercial grade storefront windows and doors.

A standing seam metal roof is pitched to a large concealed gutter which harvests rainwater for reuse. Other sustainable strategies include a 5kW SunPower PV array and a Heliodyne direct solar domestic hot water system.


The main living level is twelve feet above grade and overlooks a nearby preserve and bird sanctuary. Inside, the primary living space is a combined, high ceilinged living/dining/kitchen area. South facing windows and doors open onto a pool and are shaded by a trellis topped with solar hot water panels. A screened dining porch also opens onto the pool area. The concrete of the pool deck is repeated in a polished finish on the interior floors throughout. The interior furnishings of the home were also selected by the architects.
