The planned site is about 2 km west of the center of Niseko Town, where you can see Niseko Annupuri, Mt. Yotei, and Shiribetsu River below. There are few buildings in the surrounding area, so it is a very quiet place.
It was planned as a vacation home (and rental vacation home) for the overseas owner couple and their children. During discussions with the owner, we decided to choose a site closer to the river within the vast site, and incorporate the magnificent scenery of the Shiribetsu River and Annupuri spreading to the north. The north side of the living room has a large opening to take in the scenery. The heat loss is usually very high, but the triple low-e glass and the extra insulation in the walls and ceiling allow you to enjoy the sunlit views of the north.
The roof is set horizontally to match the volume of the building, and is set to rise in order from the approach. It is a type of building that often has a large stance due to the volume required for the interior space, but by this operation, it becomes a more human scale and gently connects the scenery. A lot of wood is used for the interior and exterior finishing materials, creating a warm and enveloping space. We aimed for an architecture that stands close to the landscape and people, such as the shape of the building, materials and colors.
