Set 200 meters above sea level, Villa Samsara is perched at the highest point of the prestigious Selong Selo development on Lombok Island, Indonesia. It offers breathtaking 360-degree views of southern Lombok, including the pristine Selong Belanak Beach and, on clear days, Mount Rinjani 60 kilometers away. The villa, designed by ALT, spans 495m² on a 1416m² plot, allowing space for a large outdoor pool and expansive tropical gardens that blend architecture with nature. Established trees and boulders were preserved to maintain the area's natural beauty.
The construction, lasting nearly 12 months, tested local teams due to the villa’s remote location and difficult material transportation. The design seamlessly merges the indoors with the outdoors, featuring 3.5-meter-high glass doors that open the ground floor to the environment. A sunken living room aligns guests' eye level with the infinity pool, enhancing the illusion of the pool merging into the sea. The interior combines warmth with contemporary styling, using local materials like Indonesian marble and Sumatra-grown bangkirai wood, accented with raw concrete and volcanic green andesite tiles for the pool.
Villa Samsara's upper level is dedicated to rest, with six luxurious en-suite double bedrooms offering complete privacy. The master bedroom features floor-to-ceiling glass doors leading to a terrace and spa. A strategically placed atrium connects the upper hallway with the lower living space, enhancing the villa's sense of fluidity and openness. A swimming pool spans the entire length of the communal spaces, ensuring guests can enjoy the ocean view from every room, including the living room, dining room, open kitchen, and games room.
