Mark de Reus, in
association with Hart Howerton, designed this five bedroom home overlooking
Kikaua Bay. The 8,000 sq. ft. plan organizes the homes three separate hales
around a long shady internal garden and gives the main living space and lanai
full direct views of the ocean.
The theme of water was brought alongside the living areas with a swimming pool
engaging the floor plan on one side, and a reflecting pool at the interior
garden on the other. Hawaiian and Pacific Rim craftsmanship are seen in the
details from the exposed wood beams at the eaves and ceiling, to the carved
stone artwork, intricately carved wood doors inspired from Bali, playful colors
in the plaster walls, coconut columns, and rich tropical woods.
