Sea Mountain - Coastalscapes
The Sea Mountain is a
Cultural Forum extending out from the waterfront to encircle a beautiful
pre-existing rocky bay. The architecture
is conceived as a rolling dune-scape with multiple functions stretched along
its two kilometer length to accommodate many visitors and locals alike. It is a mega-truss
which rolls in 3 dimensions along the untouched coastline of Tripoli. There
will be a wide variety of public and private spaces all differing in character
and scale.
The entire form gently
emerges out of the sandy shore and up and over the bay allowing visual access
both to the Mediterranean sea and back to the mainland. The mega structure will
lift out of the water to allow boats and other watercraft to move under it as
well as maintain a small footprint onto the sea.
The project aims at being
self sustaining by using tidal and solar energy. The Southern Mediterranean
climate will be harnessed to maintain a low energy footprint while providing a
450 suite 5 star hotel, a 4,600 seat auditorium, an outdoor amphitheater, a 2,200 seat multipurpose hall, and a
cultural strip of small shops for local artists and vendors. Restaurants and
cafes will be spotted along the pedestrian walkway with ample public facilities.
All these services will be serviced using a loop road which will connect both
ends of the Sea Mountain to existing primary roads. Rainwater will be collected
and reused as for the vegetation and plant life covering a majority of the Sea
Mountains exposed surface. Photovoltaic panels will be mounted between
mounds of grass to collect solar energy without disturbing the magnificent
views of the Mediterranean Sea.
