This state-of-the-art research facility now has its administrative east coast headquarters and three first research buildings located on the Florida Atlantic University (FAU) campus in Palm Beach County. These will serve as the focus of an innovative community of residents, biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, retail and recreational outlets, cultural and educational attractions to be developed on neighbouring lands. The Scripps’ facilities are designed with a strong emphasis on functionality, safety, efficiency, flexibility, work patterns, and the role of discourse and communication in the advancement of scientific thought. The buildings are sited to respect the FAU Master Plan, yet to create a separate identity for Scripps. The urban design for Scripps is of an organic quality, in contrast to the classical spirit of the FAU campus. A new lake acts to both separate and join these two institutions. The dominant Scripps’ building is aligned on the central axis of the FAU campus, while research buildings flank either side.Landscaping consists predominantly of native species, with particular attention to the dramatic Royal Palm, which will march rhythmically along the curved roadway that serves Scripps.Zeidler Partnership Architects / Bohlin Cywinski Jackson in joint venture
