Designed as an important expansion to the existing Scripps Medical Campus near San Diego, CA the new 6-story medical outpatient facility is designed to celebrate a state of the art healing environment.
The unique building design provides optimum performance over the traditional double loaded corridor to allow access to natural light and ventilation as well as ease of pedestrian flow and wayfinding. The exterior curtain wall skin is covered with a terra cotta louver system creating a solar shading devise to limit heat gain from the south and western exposures while allowing view and access to natural light. The unique design, while initially more expensive will provide energy cost savings and reduce the overall life-cycle cost after the first 5 years of operations.
