This project was a new custom build for our own family in the Platt Park neighborhood of Denver. As you might imagine, we had several particular objectives with this project: To design and build an energy-efficient modern home that scaled to fit the neighboring properties while still feeling like a loft on a small infill urban lot.
We also wanted an open layout with lots of glass that maximized natural light and ventilation, visual access from anywhere on the first floor to see our kids playing, an indoor/outdoor feel throughout the home, seasonal patios, tall ceilings, use of energy-saving technologies and products, and durable, long-lasting materials and finishes.
We built the home out of structural insulated panels (SIPS) to reduce construction waste and have a super-insulated home. We used many higher-end products including a Henrybuilt kitchen, Loewen windows and doors, and natural cedar siding.
The two-car garage in the back was sided with Galvalume steel corrugated siding, a durable material that would contrast nicely with the warmth of the primary home.
Sustainable Features: Structural Insulated Panels (SIPS), triple pane Loewen windows and doors, Duro-design bamboo flooring, Energy Star appliances, smart thermostat, low VOC paint, on demand water heater, Dual-flush toilets, water–saving plumbing fixtures
