This garage is placed in Niigata Prefecture, in a region with heavy snowfall. This wooden structure building has two stories, the first floor is parking space for four cars, and the second floor is storage. The rational but unique shape of the building is a solution for two main tasks: corresponding to the heavy snowfall, and keeping the frontage as wide as possible. Scissors-shaped truss is used as structural frame in the frontage direction. Scissors Truss is usually used for roof structure. However by using it vertically we were able to keep the frontage as wide as possible, making the entrance and exit of the cars easier. The snow falls from the slanted roof into the channel just by the site and melts naturally. The slanted wall keeps the building safe from the damages of the snow falling from the roof, while creating a roofed passage under it.
