The RISD 2nd Life project was a group project completed by the 1st year MDes Students in the Interior Architecture department at the Rhode Island School of Design. As part of their first semester's Introduction to Design Studio, the students were given 6 weeks and a budget of 5,000 dollars to re-design the interior of the RISD 2nd Life Store: a not for profit, second-hand material store that sells donated material in Providence, at a discounted price.
There were many challenges that needed to be overcome in order to complete the project, but the greatest challenge was solving the central design challenge: how do you create a modular storage device that can accommodate an infinite and unpredictable range of inventory, on a budget of less than 5,000 dollars?
The students pulled together and worked diligently to create a solution that could accommodate a range of objects, through a modular deign that created new storage opportunities through rotation.
