The existing science building was built in 1978 and is a rectangular, 4-storey ground floor g/b frame/brick building with a basement. In 2010, the modernisation (renovation) of the building was completed - roof and facade insulation, replacement of windows, installation of handrail hoists, partial modernisation of some engineering systems, and routine repairs to the premises.
The building is being overhauled and adapted for the laboratory building of the Faculty of Electronics. The materials used for the façade decoration have been chosen to match the materials and overall style of the laboratory building of the Faculties of Electronics, Mechanics and Transport Engineering, which is being built next to the new building at 25 Plytinės Street.
The main structure of the building is retained with 2 escape staircases, the main access to the building is formed from the outside, going inside and going up the stairs to the inside of the building. For the disabled access, an entrance from the outside to the internal lift is provided to ensure access to the building for people with disabilities.
The ground floor wall is partially demolished and a new entrance to the building is provided. In the basement, a foundation for the lift shaft is being laid. The existing windows are replaced with new ones. The façade is insulated with a ventilated façade system, with white aluminium composite panels and fired clay tiles for the façade finishes.
