Gresham Smith is providing complete design services for Schwan Cosmetics USA’s new 173,000-square-foot headquarters and manufacturing facility in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, 35 miles southeast of Nashville. The German-based private-label cosmetics supplier selected the greenfield site in late 2013. Gresham Smith is part of the design-build team with Turner Construction. The facility is expected to open in second-quarter 2015.
The facility maximizes adjacencies to encourage collaboration between manufacturing employees and office employees. The open layout and neutral palette help to strategically highlight branding elements. Amenity spaces include a fitness center and locker rooms, café with computer stations and conference rooms.
“We want to congratulate Schwan Cosmetics on this notable milestone and express our gratitude for the opportunity to work on such a worthwhile project,” said project manager Scott Schulz, senior architect at Gresham Smith. “We believe our team has created a crisp, modern, quality-focused environment that strengthens Schwan’s brand identity and service capabilities without losing focus on the manufacturing need for efficient process-driven design. The new facility will successfully connect Schwan’s strategic goals with something concrete, resulting in a progressive space with international appeal that embodies the company’s tagline: ‘Inspiration Engineered.”
The space is also designed to allow clients to fully experience the innovations of the Schwan Cosmetics’ team. The reception lobby will make a striking first impression with glass walls offering direct views into the clean, organized manufacturing facility. Clients can move further into the factory along a central spine or continue upstairs to view the Research & Development (R&D) Lab.
Gresham Smith is ranked as the #4 Top Industrial-Sector Architecture Firm in the United States by Building Design and Construction magazine. The firm has designed and engineered numerous manufacturing facilities throughout the Southeast across a wide range of industrial segments.
