Metropolitan United Studio is the Architect of Record for this 3,050 SF penthouse alteration/renovation, located in Midtown Manhattan on the west side. The building itself is part of a larger complex of units under Archstone Clinton Green Management and sits atop 2 levels of condominiums and a performance theater. The initial layout of the penthouse was altered slightly from its original design to better organize the desired condo features. This includes a new feature wall and a restructured kitchen layout for the clients to efficiently entertain their guests. The feature wall serves multiple purposes for the clients’ needs, as both a display wall on the living room side for artwork and on its opposing side, a storage area for additional acquired pieces. Due to its strategic placement within the condo, this wall unit serves as the public/private dividing wall, keeping the two programmatic elements ideally separate within the residence.Throughout its entirety, the design of the condo fosters a clean and modern feel in response to existing conditions. This style is further enriched through simple, delicate finishes, accent lighting, and specialized furniture pieces. In addition, MechoShade is specified to install double motorized shades along the living room wall system in order to avoid over excessive heat gain and to minimize glare while allowing ample skyline and river views. The penthouse was completed in July 2009.MUS worked in collaboration with WestFourth Architecture on this project.
