The Hampshire conservation village of Broughton needs to expand to satisfy demand both locally and from further afield. This sloping field on the north-west edge of the village, surrounded by the primary school, doctors’ surgery and allotments, provides the ideal location. The houses are set back from the Salisbury Road at the western/top end of the site by a wildflower green and further grouped around a more formal green at the eastern/bottom end. An informal hedge-lined lane meanders through the site. The 32 houses proposed include a mixture of 12 affordable, 4 retirement bungalows in the form of a ‘farm’ grouping, a selection of 3 and 4 bedroom units and three 5 bedroom houses. All designs are closely related to the Conservation Area and examples from adjacent villages.
