Raphael Zuber's first built project came into fruition as the winning entry for a school house and kindergarten in Grono, Switzerland. For the plan, the architect inscribed a square (the building) within a circle (the site), creating a refined expression of pure geometry. Set within an otherwise insignificant Swiss town, the quadrate proportions connect with the Alpine landscape. As the schoolhouse is set within a public square, the building becomes an architectural monument to the small town. The brown pigment of the cement recalls the local soil, while the geometric facade shows an interested in geometrical wonder.
