how can we implement
the nine square grid into the suburban condition?
an ideal garden city
where house and nature are one organism
can a daily
routine generate a housing typology?
Family A :
single elderly woman (68) we granted a balance between spaces and
places seen as traditional and new media for an elderly women to
enhance her interest - traveling as well as continuing with the
lifestyle she has been used for quite some time
Family B :
three generation family (grandfather 76, grandmother 74, father 43,
mother 41, daughter 16, son 11, son 7). we respect the independence
of 3 groups that make up this family. each has their own zoning as
well as a room for leisure. common spaces play also an important
role in this model
Family C :
young couple household (women 32, man 33) due to the status of their
profile (well educated, good salary, working also during the
weekend) we implemented many spaces of leisure and work profile, for
the house to reflect the couple activities outside the house
Family D :
classic family model (husband 43, woman 39, daughter 17, son 14)
maybe the most typical family type condition in our setting
how to transform the
four square grid with the help of a 3 by 3 square grid to generation
most suitable model for the suburban condition
starting
point... we impose 10 functions of high value for each family on
each functional ring. now the transformation will start which will
eventually give high quality of spaces in terms of exposure,
sunlight, mutual relationship, neighbor
relationship...
living room
transformation - the space seen as the most common and lively space
of the house starts a series of transformations giving unique
features for each house
the kitchens
where paired up to catalyze a social interaction between families.
this spatial condition for instance can generate a situation where
people exchange recipes or simply cook together
some night
spaces had already a satisfying condition (location) others where in
conflict with other spaces of other homes as well as with spaces
belonging to the same house
spaces of body
care function are last from the group of 4 main functions that have
the most impact on the house itself. naturally the priority
changes with each family. we chose those 4 to create an example that
works for this strategy
basic
transformation have occurred, now we add
the missing functions for each family to end up with 16. within this
overall condition we find location for new functions
with the last
transformations some problems occurred on
the previous transformations levels. we do a global "summary"
and correct those spaces
when having a
function scheme we generate a typology of
a house: small spaces of diverse location connected with corridors
that have a more-then-a-corridor potential. big length of a house
enclosures large amount of nature which eventually becomes the house
itself
we decide for
each house to have the maximum 162 m2 of floor area. due to this
limit the width of an average house is dependant
on its overall length
Garden city
scheme is almost always one of many parts
(points) of a bigger complex organism (like a big city). Single
living individual will move always from point to point of the same
trajectory of each day (this we can call daily routine). When we
look at the city as a big orthogonal grid and then when we will look
at all their inhabitants' daily routines linked together, they
create a king of a galaxy, where each of the points (just like
stars) will be named after its function then linked to another and
another, and will create an individual map of events. Why can we not
generate a house like this. House where certain events happen one
after another on unexpected spatial, open and vibrant trajectory. In
this scheme the characteristic of nature (flora and fauna) overlap
with the characteristic of the house. They are both in an equal
symbiosis.
spaces that
relate to nature and other spaces of
neighboring households either through common means of communication
or with the help of new technology. Each house "wears"
inside an intelligent coat which stores and reveals information on
the neighbors, activities' through color, sound, temperature, for
instance when someone will walk in a space neighboring to your
house this will generate virtual footsteps on your floor or when
both of neighbors will approve you can make the wall in between
transparent and communicate with your neighbor through tiny
surface of technology.
