This project was brought upon my class as an opportunity to research the culture of Shanghai to find out if it was an acceptable place to open a satellite school to Parsons School of Constructed Environment. The task was to design a Shanghai school of Constructed Environment that would introduce our culture to theirs, and vice versa. This site, an elevated highway that runs between two small colleges, was an intriguing situation due to its major impact on the area. I was very interested in the subtly of the highways curve and began to study how to stitch the two schools together through a new school that becomes part of the highway. The result is a floating U tower that acts as a gateway, not only on the highway, but as a visual connection to the SCE family and culture.
