www.sasa010.blogspot.comCollective Urban Identity: Past, Present, Future. Friday 20th August 2010. 10am - 6pmScottish Architecture Students Assembly (SASA) host a special event, held in Glasgow which will centre around a discussion on the theme of collective identity within the city. Focusing on the 2009 closure of Paddy’s Market, an historic flea market in Glasgow city centre, this special event will investigate how the city defines its identity. We will discuss how such an under-appreciated forum as Paddy’s market was really, as Aldo Rossi describes, an important ‘collective urban artifact’, embodying notions of collective memory; sentiment and; nostalgia, whilst at the same time, we believe, capable of integrating Glasgow's emerging patchwork identities within the city. The event will also herald and celebrate the inaugural meeting of SASA, a student led and organised group which seek to establish the foundation for an annual festival of architecture and design between students from the six schools of architecture in Scotland. The event will consist of a guest lectures, interactive agit-props throughout the city and design workshops. The outcome of the event will form an exhibition, on display through the month of September at several locations throughout Glasgow City Centre including Mono and The Barras Centre.
