The Sanya Railway station is a high speed, high
utilization, central urban complex for Sanya- the southernmost city of China,
and a key component towards its development into an international tourism city.
The design was carried out as a partnership between
LAB Architecture Studio and INDEX Architecture and utilizes traditional symbols
extracted from the geometric patterns of Li Jin to form its contemporary urban
spaces. ‘Barrier-free’ docking between station transfer areas
and the surrounding urban areas allow free passage throughout. Passengers are
able to reach the rail station and adjacent businesses, retail, residential
precincts from any location. Main pedestrian thoroughfare divides inner areas in
the East-West direction forming a central canyon footpath with dramatic effect.
Retail and business frontage spans both sides of the canyon street, with direct
connections to bus terminal areas.Leisure
areas form a second core axis in the north-south direction, connecting the main
station precinct to leisure campus areas, hotels, galleries, and parklands. SANYA RAILWAY STATION SITE AREA: 896,257m2 GFA:
