Santa Barbara Beautiful has recognized this project in 2018 with the “Green Residential Home” award. This award singles out one of our firm’s core competencies: sustainable design.
Our clients bought this older Ranch-style house from the wife’s parents, and we helped them transform it into a contemporary property that suits their lifestyle and tastes. Working with everGreen Landscape Architects, we reworked the sloping site with new exposed concrete retaining walls and patios in front and rear. The rear patio includes a fire pit and outdoor kitchen, as well as a dynamic new architectural cover for shade.
We changed the roofing to standing seam metal and installed new energy-efficient windows and a new plaster finish. The old separated kitchen and dining room were opened to the living room to create a large public space. New folding doors open the house to the rear patio. All interior cabinets and materials were changed to create a clean, contemporary look.
