The project is located in a mature neighborhood in North Vancouver and serves as the home for a young family of four and their dog and cat. The site enjoys tremendous views to the west overlooking the LionsGateBridge and Burrard Inlet beyond.
The design encompasses the complete reorganization and renovation of an existing 1950’s bungalow. Although completely incompatible with the client’s lifestyle, the original building was quite sound and well proportioned and created an economical and environmentally responsible opportunity for an appropriate transformation. A series of careful “surgical” modifications complete the re-purposing of the house in response to the family’s growing needs and aspirations, including avid interests in art and wine collection, cooking and entertaining, and vibrant life with growing children.
Interior spaces are open and airy. An expansive sliding glass wall provides seamless integration with the exterior deck and opens the living areas to the expansive views. A restrained material palette is used inside and out and includes stone, zinc, cedar siding, and white oak flooring.
