The Sanctuary is an architectural work of intimate character, conceived to serve the spiritual and religious needs of the family it represents.
The project emerges as a sculpture-object: a piece that, by the nature of its function and the scale of its presence, is integrated into the forest, removed from all urban infrastructure. This isolation is not incidental, it is an essential condition to foster the introspection and contemplation that this type of space demands.
To access Sanctuary, a rustic path that starts from a nearby village was created. The parking area is placed at a distance from the enclosure, preserving the acoustic stillness of the site.
The object sits on the banks of a mid-sized lake, oriented towards it with intention; from the upper level of the building, the *view of the water becomes the axis of contemplation and connection. In the lake, a Catholic cross rises above the water, establishing a visual and symbolic dialogue between the architecture and the landscape.
The program unfolds across two levels. The semi-basement houses the area for individual urns and coffins, in front of which a series of steps articulates the space for religious ceremonies and a the upper level with a contemplative place to view the surrounding forest.
The materiality is uniform and resolute: board-formed reinforced concrete, without added ornament — a decision that reaffirms the spiritual character of the work and trusts in the honesty of the material as its own language.
