McClean Design
The new residence is a located on a large flat lot adjacent to a busy street. Our goal was to design a beautiful family home while minimizing street noise. It is essential that the outside world be left behind and our ides focused on creating a zone of decompression as you enter the property. The street is heavily screened with landscaping and high walls. The drive court is separated from the entry courtyard by a glass screen wall. The landscaped courtyard contains a water element to further screen noise and provide an attractive focal point. The house is laid out over two levels in an L shape configuration around the garden. The kitchen family room opens onto a large covered porch which is lit through a glass floor in the deck above. The pool house provides an attractive focal point from the living spaces across the garden.
There are six bedrooms in the house as well as formal and family livings spaces, media and office. The palette of materials is soft contemporary with extensive use of limestone, wood as well as Italian cabinetry and bronze accents. The garden is the focus of the design incorporating the lawn and pool, various outdoor entertaining spaces, ornamental trees and sculpture.
