The
Samuell Grand Driving Range is located on a 10 acre
site adjacent to an existing 36-hole municipal golf course and clubhouse in East
Dallas. The new driving range and
building serve as a teaching facility, maintenance facility and a retail
establishment.
The
crescent shaped layout of the tee boxes imitate the flight of the golf ball,
which is determined by wind resistance, gravity and turbulence. The ball will follow a parabolic path as it
fights gravity going up, and gives way to gravity on its return to the
ground.
The
curved roof profile of the building was inspired by the swing of a golf
club. A beautiful golf swing
resembles a pendulum, like a motion in arc form.
The
building is elegantly crafted of commonplace materials. Due to the utilitarian nature of the program,
the stone walls and metal roof were selected to be easily maintained and
durable.
