CATBALOGAN AIRPORT BRIDGE
Beyond the most practical and immediate effects derived from this new connection, the bridge aims to explore and experience the Samar culture, not only by making it more accessible, but, especially, by spreading the welfare of the prosperous community, making this traditional culture a more resilient place.
The bridge form was kept as clean as possible to preserve the panoramic view of the surrounding between the two gateways, its horizontality gently manifested thru its geometrical form by avoiding vertical elements, which could disrupt the calming natural atmosphere.
The serene atmosphere and lack of intrusiveness have been achieved by sensitive architectural gestures, proposing an intimate yet open and inviting sculptural anchors; obscured by edge of the mountains yet in clear view.
With a total length of 700 meters, the bridge includes three 63 meters spans without intermediate supports. Its undulating shape, resulting from landing space constraints, helped preserve the existing views and al- lowed the structure.
