Located on the site of an abandoned gravel pit in an industrial area near I-84, Salish Pond Cottages transformed a bleak landscape and 70 ft deep pit into a wonderful place and site for 10 beautifully crafted cedar shingle cottages. All cottages face the pond to the east and are part of a 3 acre site that is commonly landscaped and maintained. The cottages range in size from 750 square feet to 1200 square feet. The interiors have included recycled southern heart pine floors and cedar decking reclaimed from a fish cannery in Alaska. Ross Chapin Architects from Whidbey Island, Washington designed the buildings and site plan. Most of the pond was given to the public and restored even more during the last few years. The project was featured in the book, Good Green Homes, by Jennifer Roberts and also made the front page of the Oregonian Home and Garden Magazine.
