After working together on Zo Greek, the Zo Restaurant Group knew Bergmeyer had all the right ingredients to make their second outfit’s expanded brick-and-mortar location. Sabroso means “tasty” in Spanish, and this taqueria lives up to its name!
In a market that’s flush with quick-serve Mexican cuisine, Bergmeyer understood Sabroso’s desire to set their dine-in restaurant apart while building upon the success of their popular food truck. Sabroso’s leadership wanted to create a new type of venue, a laid-back taqueria with a dive bar feel — minus the grunge. Walking through the front door, diners immediately sense this is a cool spot to grab a bite and a few drinks with colleagues, friends, or family.
Located in Assembly Row, Sabroso’s storefront was designed to stand out among the surrounding upscale retailers and restaurants. An exterior, rollup garage door, reminiscent of their street fare roots, creates an approachable environment that draws diners in to their inside/outside bar top.
Along the main window, outdoor seating offers a welcoming energy and a casual setting, and locally commissioned, street-inspired wall art by Studio Fresh invokes distinct memories of Boston’s urban sprawl. Concrete, reclaimed wood, metal sheet panels, and exposed brick make up the interior finishes, carefully selected to reflect an urban streetscape.
Visit Sabroso on your next trip to Somerville’s destination neighborhood — your eyes and your mouth will thank you.
