The new Ryerson Photography Gallery and Graduate Research Centre is located within the existing School of Image Arts building.
In consultation with the Canadian Conservation Institute and the Moveable Cultural Property Board, the program and design has been developed to house the newly acquired Black Star Collection in a climate controlled “Class A” exhibition environment.
The gallery is divided into three spaces: an Introductory Gallery that introduces visitors to the collection and provides information about current exhibitions; a student Gallery where Ryerson students can showcase their talent to a broader audience; and a flexible open space Main Gallery which can be freely arranged and subdivided to accommodate a broad range of exhibitions. The new Research Centre will accommodate Ryerson’s unique Graduate Program on Conservation and Preservation and provide archival storage for the collection within a “Class A” working environment that enables the handling of all collections for research and exhibition purposes.
