The Rwanda Smile Centre is a dental clinic and training facility for a Christian ministry team in Rwanda. Rwanda currently has only 48 dentists in a country with a population of almost 12 million people! This project opens the opportunity for more dentists to be trained to serve the population and provide a clinic for people to be educated and treated.
The projects sits on a steep 36m drop. We tackled this issue by stacking the dental and Christian ministry programs. This aims to harmonise, synthesis and to create efficient working spaces.
The form, the warm colour palette and the volcanic rock and wood material choices highlight the local Rwanda vernacular. With the implementation of fine marbles, polished brass and a balanced use of stones, we aim to create a high end, world-class building.
Rwanda, once known as the land of a thousand hills, will be, the land of a thousand smiles.
