This retreat home was designed on a modest construction budget as a simple place of shelter and repose. The house borrows from the local vernacular with a shed structure: a durable metal roof on exposed wood framing over parallel masonry walls and a concrete floor. The interior extends to exterior living spaces on each end through sliding glass doors, while operable north-facing clerestory windows allow cross ventilation and large roof overhangs help to mitigate solar heat gain and contribute to passive cooling.
