This is the first schematic concept for a project that consists of a
house and two bungalows near Black Lake in Olympia, Washington. The
main house is flooded with light from floor to ceiling windows. The
loft level is open to the living room and dining room. The house is
split on an axis that appears to slip down with the landscape while
playfully echoing the work of Gordon Matta-Clark. The split allows for
an interesting juxtaposition of the pitched roof, a sunken living room
and the addition of a clerestory window that brings direct sunlight
into the master bedroom.
