The market of Rubí is located in a central urban position. Its triangular plot marked the final shape of the building, while an excavated residual space which was transformed into an urban intervention. Having the main entrance at the square, the market changes its orientation. New city hall and market administration offices, lie on the northern side of the plot of this façade like building. On the ground floor, the building opens to a commercial area complementing the existent market activity with direct access to the market and to the underground parking. The project includes a two-storied underground parking lot that integrates the existing parking spaces. The refurbishment of the lower floors provides sufficient logistical space to successfully install refrigerators and waste processor systems. The infrastructure merges with the overlapping enlargement of the market itself. This hereby created new square, became the outdoors hall of the market, with a geometry creating walkable slopes and a interconnected suitable public space. It becomes the extension of the commercial activities inside the market, providing new space for fairs and occasional outdoor commercial events.
