The intention of the client was, through the building of an annexe, to expand the existing sales, display and storage areas in the building of a former farm. The proposed single-storey wooden building consists in the ground-plan of five rectangles measuring 5.4 x 5.0 m, which with height increments of 25 cm copy the various levels in the original building and resolve the natural interconnection of the old and the newly-established display areas. The differing levels of the floors also enable the interesting display of the furniture on show. The construction only touches the original building lightly and forms a whole with it in the way that a ship forms a single unit with the quay. The building combines within it pictures, verandas, winter gardens, Japanese wooden toys and wooden tea-chests. CONSTRUCTION: Foundations – reinforced concrete slabs of graduated heights and a lengthways reinforced concrete strip. The upper construction of the building is entirely of wood. Wooden perpendicular pillars – of faced steel sections – are placed in pairs. The pillars are anchored to the concrete slab by means of steel anchors subsequently screwed down with steel bolts. On the perpendicular plane the building is visibly braced by the crossing of two steel bars. All the construction timber of the roof is ordinary pine timber. Its later drying out and cracking was expected and creates a contrast with the "mechanical" repetitive composition of the building as a whole. The internal panelling of the ceiling is screwed together from pre-veneered plywood panels. The roof is double and ventilated. The top covering is of industrial corrugated sheeting. The entire building is thermally insulated with mineral panels. The external cladding of the building is of water-resistant varnished plywood. The double shell has a consistent ventilation space everywhere.
