The Royal on 99 hotel is located on the North Eastern corner of Hawthorne and McDowell Streets in Roma, designed and built to replace its predecessor that had burnt down in November 2014.
The building purposefully articulates qualities of regional architecture in its efficient and simplistic expression of form, whilst challenging and contrasting with the surrounding traditional hotels by exposing interior functions through extensive glazing and openings to both McDowall Street and Hawthorn Street. The transparent façade wrapping around a large atrium volume over the bistro at the primary corner ensures an exchange between interior and street. The result is a warm and friendly ambiance that the local community has embraced and taken ownership of.
