Homtel was a refurbishing project with an existing residential building acquired to be converted into a hotel. Incorporating hospitality services in this building was the prime challenge as the layout plan was already approved by the authorities and the profile had to be retained as it is including balconies. The guest rooms and public areas were aptly aligned in an efficient hospitality setting. The column grid was pertinent to design a comprehensive suite instead of compact rooms and therefore, the Hotel was named Royal Hometel Suites. The interiors are enthused with the local essence of Bombay in the form of Bollywood’s caricatures, movie posters, famous news articles, and similar graphics used as artwork. These artworks and accessories also assimilated the major lifelines of the commercial capital, i.e., Mumbai's local train and taxi. The complete composition was drafted in black and white while adding splashes of colour. There was a substantial area for public spaces for banquets and a cafeteria. The cafeteria also serves as a decent get-together place for the local residents. The interior architecture was so ideally done that one cannot envisage the fact that the actual land use of the site was a residence.
